ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System (SH).

OHSAS 18001:2007 is a standard still in use until 11th March 2021 prior to ISO 45001 taking over from OHSAS. However, to implement from now, the new engineered standard should be considered from this point on.

Essential, is making sure that one considers complying with legal requirements and needs complete implementation of all occupational health & safety laws applicable.

Statistics received, indicates that over 7,600 people die each day from work related accidents or diseases-which also deciphers into 2.78M every year.

The burden equates both for employers and the wider economy, resulting in losses from early retirements, absenteeism and rising premiums for insurance.

Combatting such problems, ISO has engineered a new standard named,        ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health & Safety Management System- Within the new engineered standard there are requirements that will help organisations reduce this burden by providing a system to assist and deliver a safer environment reducing workplace risks and safer working conditions globally.

The complex nature of a system will need to be assessed from within each organisation subject to their requirements. If referring to SME’s (Small, Medium Entrepreneurs) it could be greater leadership from an organisation owner, with clearly defined expectations from its employee’s and how they assume responsibility toward the organisation’s overall objectives, without extensive documentation compared to a larger organisation with complex situations in sectors that warrant controls and documentation due to highly regulated circumstances.
